I uploaded pics of my apartment for your viewing pleasure. The tour starts with in my entryway, and then goes into the bathroom area (which is a sink, with a separate bath/shower room and a separate toilet room). Then it goes into my two 畳 (tatami) rooms where I sleep and live. It has sliding wall-doors that separate the rooms, four panels in all, and I took pictures of them in different views so that you can see the different arrangements possible. It's cool. My closet space is double the amount found in most Japanese apartments, and my kitchen is huge too. The see through doors are cool too. I sleep on a real 布団 (futon), not the kind that folds into a sofa that you can buy at Wally World. That’s not to say that it is more comfortable, so I'm not bragging about that... And yes, I sit on the floor in my floor chair. The coffee looking table thing is a 火燵 (kotatsu), its a table, under which is a heater that heats the legs and feet. In Japan, they don't have central heating, so they just heat one small space and they don't move from it. The kitchen is bigger than some of my kitchens I had in Denver or Springfield, MO, so it's HUGE for Japanese standards. My half-size fridge is just fine since it would cost too damn much to fill up a big one anyway. Above the kitchen sink, there is a big white box with another spout coming out. This is the water heater for the sink. When you turn it on, you can see the propane flame light in the little windows on the side. It probably isn’t very efficient because my gas bill was $45. Maybe twenty-minute showers just aren’t going to cut it here. Then, finally, I show off my washer (yes, it is on the balcony, OUTSIDE) and my clothes drying space (also the balcony). It's a great apartment, and my friends are always impressed when they see it.
I also uploaded a link to Dai's punk band so you can hear just how loud modern Japanese music can be. That's all for now!
